For Immediate Release.
THE PUZZLED PLAYERS COMEDY IMPROV THEATER
The Puzzled Players Comedy Improvisation Theater is a group of adult players who act out improvised scenes and short sketches
throughout the Southern Tier and beyond. Their Improv shows are mostly composed of "theater games" made popular by Viola Spolin
in the 50's. Examples of these "games" can currently be seen on television's WHO'S LINE IS IT ANYWAY?
The Puzzled Players perform live and unscripted, creating
characters and locations based upon suggestions from the audience such as: "A husband and his 3rd wife, in a canoe
with a toaster." Often, volunteers from the audience are invited onto the stage to participate. For example, THE BREAK-IN
is a scene composed of two players who are breaking into a store, finding "loot" and making an escape. Two audience volunteers,
stationed at microphones, make all of the sound effects for the scenes including footsteps, creaking doors, gun shots, embarassing
sounds, and more.
Improv is performed without props, costumes or rehearsal. For added excitement, however, there is often a rehearsed
comedy sketch with props and costumes, or a musical guest.
In addition to performing for the public, at private parties and at corporate events, since the group was formed in
September of 2002, The Puzzled Players now present the area's original and only regularly scheduled Comedy
Improv Shows. See them monthly at the Tioga Trails Café in Owego, NY, The
Downtown Quarterback in Endicott, NY and soon in Binghamton, NY as part of the First Friday Celebrations.
[Check the website for the current show schedule including days, times and venue pricing! 2/7/05]
Group discount tickets and reserved seating is available by calling Russell Swanger Productions at 607-725-5704
or through The Puzzled Players website at www.thepuzzledplayers.com.
Doors open at 8:00 PM. Arrive early for the best seats. Tickets are also sold at the door. Admission is restricted
to 18 and over.
[Check the website for the current show schedule including days and times! 1/22/05]
The Puzzled Players are conducting a search for outgoing adults who wish to learn more about Improv. The individuals must
be able to work within a group. Previous theater, music or related experience is helpful but not required. There are also several
positions available behind the scenes in marketing, sound, lighting, etc.
